Networked Writing

Twitter Fiction – Here you will find 3 twitter fiction’s which I composed myself. Ranging form hockey to family I will explore how to write them and how I found out how hard it was to do. My 3 twitter fiction are listed below:

1. ‘As he looked out across the battlefield, he knew that the battle had been won, that he had scored the winning goal, and the rest is history’.

2. ‘He gave the order to destroy me, but the monster fed on love I no longer had’.

3. ‘It was when his holding became more like choking and leaving became more like dancing that I realised all my movements were wrong’.

My thoughts: I have chosen to write these 3 twitter fiction because they all have a personal touch to me, in the surroundings of hockey which is a big part of my life, The first twitter fiction is close to me and describes me winning the league with my old hockey club at the age of 15, and I remember standing on the field and knowing we have won, so I have put a slight twist on it and called it a battlefield to make it sounds more dramatic but I’m able to capture a moment of joy and relief. However for the other 2 twitter fictions I have stretched the reality of the hockey field to show moments in the game that I have seen or experienced but I leave it up to you the reader to determine what they mean…

Tweet 2 Tweet – Here you will find a story which I have composed from tweets from people in my class:

He took a breath, preparing for the horror before him. The door broke down, followed by his sanity.

The monster behind the door, grabs him by the neck, lifting him into the air. He pauses and his life flashes before him, his time had come…

The cycle of time keeps spinning, moving in a dissonant harmony. The seasons pass with ease as time ticks forward. Yet he feels frozen in time…

His eyes shut, darkness falls, he’s frozen solid, time had stopped spinning, it was the end and the monster had won.

My thoughts: The 2 tweets highlighted in green are the tweets that I randomly picked up out of a hat when we were tasked to write our twitter fiction’s down on paper and then picked them out of a hat in class. The 2 tweets I did get where very different in writing styles but I knew that I put them in the same context to create a story about a man’s dying moments, using a monster coming through a door and killing my victim, but as the victim is experiencing his final moment before time stops and darkness descends on him.

Ten Tweet Tale: We were asked to improve on our twitter fiction and make a ten tweet tale between me and David where we would tell a story through ten tweets, here is what we made:

  1. As he looked out across the battlefield, he knew that the battle had been won, that he had scored the winning goal, and the rest is history.
  2. Smiles beaming all over his face, his voices drowned by the noise in the arena.
  3. They walked up the stairs to claim their prize… ready to bath in glory.
  4. He gazed into the crowd trying to figure out where his little son was being held and the lights were just flashing brightly in his face.
  5. He moved down off the podium and rushed through the flashing lights, looking left to right.
  6. Your Father wanted you to study medicine! The thought flashed cruelly through him.
  7. But I had pursued hockey and won the world championship, I hope he is proud of me from the sky.
  8. Is he watching this? Dad! Dad!! My Son’s voice punctured my thought about my Dad’s wish.
  9. It doesn’t matter any more, my son can be whoever he wants… just like me, a world champion in the thing he loves.
  10. Flashes and clicks, more noise and…the bell rang. It’s all a dream!

My thoughts: This was an interesting exercise to do because I got to do this with David, a guy in have collaborated with before. This was our thoughts coming together to make a collaborate piece of fiction writing where we would tweet a line of a story and then the other would tweet back with the next line of the story and so on.

This is what we came up with it’s a really clever piece of writing where in the end it was all a dream but it covers a range topic, winning a hockey championship, to death of parents, to questioning your sons future, so it makes for a good read into how to people can create an in depth story from out of nowhere.

Original Writing Project: My First Day at School.

@mcdavalo – My first day at school was at Great Easton Primary School, I was very excited to start learning.

@Tallest_Charles –  My own first day at school was at Omolere Nurs and Pry School, Akure. Nigeria. I remember the hot rice meal.

@mcdavalo –  Yes, the food was lovely, I had a baguette filled with salad and ham, I didn’t really like salad but I tried it anyway!

@Tallest_Charles – How were the teachers? Did they scare you with the do’s and don’ts? I was scared about lots of school rules dished out!

@mcdavalo – Yeah my school was very strict and scary but I knew that it was all in good faith and like my teacher!!

@Tallest_Charles – Were you allowed to choose who you sat with or you were allocated your sit?

@mcdavalo – No we were allowed to choose, I sat next my life long friend Ieuan, who I still know today!

@Tallest_Charles – Lucky you! In my case, we were allocated a seat and its one boy with a girl on a bench that sits two. No complaint!

@mcdavalo – We’ll then you where lucky from the get go, but I did see a girl I liked, she was taller than me if you believe that!

@Tallest_Charles – Yeah! I later got on well with a lot of other pupils, but lost contact with almost all o ’em now….Good old days; init?

@mcdavalo – Yeah it was, I still keep contact with a few, but haven’t spoken to some in years, oh well, good memories.

My thoughts: For our original writing piece we we’re told to get into pairs and discuss a prompt given in class, me and David decided to do our first day at school and discuss this using the social platform of Twitter.

So we both when away and tweeted to each other about first day at school and some of the thing we remember happening, one of my main ones was meeting my life long friend; Ieuan who I still know today.

So you can see how amazing a first day of school is! It was really amazing to us Twitter to experience something in a time when we did not have Twitter. But to conclude I really enjoyed remembering my first day at school writing to a friend over Twitter!
